your organizationIf you recently started using an LED wall in your organization or if you’re considering adding one to your business…
in the near future, understanding how to optimize your content to look its best is crucial. Whatever content you’re sharing to customers, community members, or your congregation, you want to understand the basics to ensure it’s all easy to view and
professionally represents you.
Check out these five key areas to focus on when you’re starting out with LED wall display content. Even after you first start out, these are areas you’ll want to keep in mind as best practices for everything you share.
1. Know your screen ratio
Probably the most important best practice to keep in mind, understanding your screen’s ratio and creating content to fit that size will ensure your content isn’t stretched, cut off, or warped on your screen.
For most screens, a 16:9 ratio is used. If you’re unfamiliar with the 16:9 ratio, allow us to explain. The 16:9 ratio is the format all standard videos are displayed in, so no custom dimensions need to be used with screens this size. Most videos on your laptop, phone, YouTube feed, and other social media platforms are displayed in the 16:9 ratio.
For custom screens, you’ll want to look into the aspect ratio of your screen and adjust your sizing accordingly. Anything outside of the 16:9 ratio will need to be custom formatted or else it may stretch or get cut off on the screen.
2. Understand resolution
The larger the size of your screen, the lower the resolution is needed for your content. Content should consider your pixel-pitch and be adjusted to your screen’s physical resolution.
If your content and images look pixelated or blurry, a high resolution is probably needed. Remember, your viewing distance and pixel-pitch both plat a role in the resolution of your content.
3. Keep in mind pixel pitch and viewing distance
The pixel pitch of your LED screen and viewing distance will determine how big and bold you need to make your graphics. In general, the lower the screen resolution and farther the viewing distance, the bigger you need to make your graphics.
When you consider viewing distance, consider how far away people are from your screens. For example, a billboard requires far different content and graphics than a screen in a church’s sanctuary.
4. Minimize heavy text
When customers or people view content on a screen, the less text and information for them to digest, the better. This is especially true with LED screen content.
When creating content, try to use minimal, big, bold text that is easy to read on screen. As you continue to create content, keep in mind your audience and the types of people who will be viewing your LED screen. What information needs to be added to the screen and what can be discussed or communicated through photos, graphics, or in conversation?
5. Utilize fonts, colors, and animations
Similar to minimizing text, be sure to use fonts and colors that are easy to read. If you’re sharing a slideshow with a yellow background, white text will be extremely hard to read. Consider using contrasting colors with text that is bold and easy on the eyes. You’ll also want to remember that some of your viewers may be colorblind or averse to certain displays.
If you can also utilize photos and animations on your screen, feel free to explore them! Some animations can use too much movement and be hard to focus on, but others can be a great asset to your content and display.
Overall, be sure to consider your audience and create content that keeps them in mind. Choose fonts, colors, and graphics that are easy to read and understand. Beyond the actual content, be sure to adjust your content accordingly for your screen size, viewing distance, and with resolutions in mind.
